GORN’S TOP 20* ALBUMS OF 2025

2025년에 출시된 헤비 메탈 20위까지를 소개하겠습니다! 2025 is coming to a close, and so, the Gorn presents his favorite metal releases of the past year. This time, for the first time, only Metal Archives approved bands! None of this metalcore/scene/false putrid bullshit perversions of sacred metal music. Gatekeepers rejoice! I know what you’re thinking. Hitherto there 9 days remaining in the year. However, my “do it now, I want it done yesterday” philosophy demands I publish this list ASAP. So please enjoy this early Christmas gift, sip your whisky eggnog, and direct yourself to Papago Naver if you want to read the Korean in your mothertongue. 시작해 버겠습니다!

이번 해 헤비메탈사회는 너무 흥부하고 재미가 있었지. 재미 있는 음악과 달리 물론 비극적인 점이 일부다. 오지 오스본, 브렌트 힌즈과 다른 복수 음악자들한테 RIP을 주시기 바랍니다. 어쨌든, 여기에 이번 해 우리 GORN의 제일 좋아하는 메탈 앨범 목록이 있어요.

20. Stoned Jesus, “Songs to Sun” (Season of Mist)

우크라이나 키이우 도시에서 온 스토너 메탈 밴드 스톤어드 치서스의 여섯 번째 앨범과 기존의 앨범들이 비교하년 규모는 더 확대적인과 프로그 록 힘이 높습니다. 한번 들어보시면 한번 들어보시면 제 말을 이해할 수 있고 좋은 춤 음악을 느낄 수 있지.

19. 1914, “Viribus Unitis” (Napalm Records)

제1차 세계 대전의 얘기 영감을 받은 1914가 여러 메탈 스타일을 가지 섞어 Blackened Death/Doom Metal을 만들어 줬어요. 이제까지는 1914의 가장 심포닉 물품입니다.

18. Olde Throne, “Megalith” (Avantgarde Music)

Olde Throne의 노래 “My Throne”은 심한 Sorcier Des Glaces vibes를 듣기 쉬워어어어어. 악마의 웃음소리 들린다.

17. Runemagick,”Cycle of the Dying Sun (Dawn of Ashen Realms)” (Hammerheart Records)

사회안전망이 약자를 보호한다. 그와 비슷이 “Cycles of the Dying Sun”은 우울증 환자들을 자살 가능성부터 보호한다. 이 현상이 Death/Doom 메탈의 능역인네요. This is possibly the first ever Runemagick album in history that was entirely written, performed, and produced by Nicklas Rudolfsson alone.

16. Arkhaaik, “Uihtis” (Eisenwald)

Arkhaaik is the band responsible for introducing me to the Jünger Tumilon sect of the Zürich scene. So far, it is a profoundly ritualistic approach to extreme metal. And frankly, the occult spells work wonders on me. When I hear the opening notes of “Hagrah Gurres,” the djinn-side of my soul beckons my physical form to snap to The Position of Attention, like a soldier when a bugle sounds the reveille; after which I am mesmerized into a trance for a few minutes which feel like hours, before returning to my worldly self. 너무 무서워도 재미가 있거든.

15. Oromet, “The Sinking Isle” (Hypaethral Records)

“Let it flow, let yourself go. Slow and low, that is the tempo.” -Beastie Boys.

If you know, you know. Oromet has been covered by more than enough publications this year. So, not gonna say what’s already been. It’s Funeral Doom and it’s epic. Job done.

14. Crucible, “Hail to the Force” (From the Vaults)

다음에는 우리 목록의 자음 전통 헤비 메탈 앨범, 크류시벨의 “헤일 투 더 포스” 입니다. 밴드 크류시벨은 덴마크에서 왔네듣 여러 영국에서 온 뉴 웨이브 오브 브리티시 헤비 메탈 밴드들의 영향을 분명히 받았어요. 근데, 그 음악은 크류시벨이 더 빨리 연주하니까 스피드 메탈도 부르면 돼.

13. Sintage, “Unbound Triumph” (High Roller Records)

밴드 신테이지 또 전통 헤비 메탈 이지. 이번 앨범은 파티 헤비 메탈 소리 들릴 거요. 유명한 밴드 주다스 프리스트와 독일에서 온 블라인드 가디언과 비슷한 소리 듣기 쉬워요. 너무 재미 있지.

12. The Ominous Circle, “Cloven Tongues of Fire” (Osmose Productions)

여기 진짜 트루 블랙 대스 메탈이지. The Ominous Circle는 내가 밴드 이름을 싫어하지만 음악을 원벽 즐겨네. It’s as satiating and satisfying as ketchup on a corndog. For fans of Construct of Lethe, Temple of Baal, and Immolation.

11. Isen, “Zaklínání poslední zimy (Summoning the Last Winter)” (N/A)

Spoiler alert, from here on it is only going to be only black metal and black metal-inspired genres. That being said, this debut album by Isen (all the way from Czechia) is arguably the purest form of black metal on this entire list. No surprise. Isen comes from the artist WolfKult, the very same mind behind the project Wintermord.

10. Ad Hominem, “Totalitarian Black Metal” (Osmose Productions)

I find something funny about a 40-something year-old man in a solo black metal project being pissed-off at PC black metal fans and/or metalheads. Clearly this album is, although lazy at times, meant to offend the censorship crowd. The frontman and multi-instrumentalist Kaiser Wodhanaz once again delivers his signature cringe-worthy lyrics and song titles throughout his 7th Black ‘n’ Roll effort. Whether it’s meant to be tongue-in-creek or not, “Totalitarian Black Metal” aptly fits the pure hatred of humanity for which Ad Hominem is known.

 

9. Shāhanshāh (شاهنشاه) “Faryād: Barpākhiz! Rastākhiz! (!فریاد: برپاخیز! رستاخیز)” & “Kamãn Va Anãr (کمان و انار)” (N/A)

If there are two things I love in this world, it is blackened heavy metal and epic Islamic conquest. Both of these demos by Iranian Black Metal band Shāhanshāh embody said description. The careful reader may notice 9th position on this list is a tie between Shāhanshāh and… Shāhanshāh. What a cheeky coincidence.

8. Tómarúm, “Beyond Obsidian Euphoria” (Prosthetic Records)

It’s blackened progressive metal with a Ph.D. in abstract algebra. Finely polished and sharpened like Ned Stark’s greatsword, Tómarúm’s sophomore album is grandiose, ceremonial, cold and mythical. There isn’t a single guitar with a traditional headstock in this band. That’s right, headless necks only.

7. Blackbraid, “Blackbraid III” (independently released)

Blackbraid III는 미국 아메리카 원주민 블랙 메탈 밴드 Blackbraid이 세번째 앨범 인데요. 2022년부터 Blackbraid의 권심이 많은 주제. 이번에는 Blackbraid III 만족했다고 생각. 또한 책의 마지막 장처 보인데 그러지 아니요? 미래에는 알 수 있다면 시일가대이다.

6. Tombs, “Feral Darkness” (Redefining Darkness Records)

The only time I spoke with Mike Hill of Tombs and Everything Went Black Media, he described the band as having three types of songs: the fast tempo; the esoteric/unsettling; and the songs with a lot of “oomf.” The 6th Tombs record, “Feral Darkness,” is mostly the oomf kind. Black Metal Oomf at its oomfiest. Indeed, this time around the post-metal project leans far into Blackened Sludge Metal. The result is, quite possibly, their most fun album yet. All that while maintaining a uniqueness in their discography. A discog now spanning over 14 years.

5. Imha Tarikat, “Confessing Darkness” (Prophecy Productions)

크러스트 펑크와 스래시 메탈이 주입된 블랙 메탈. 내 제일 좋아하는 점은 이 음악 비디오 장소가 축구장 인네요. There’s even a Thin Lizzy cover song at the end of the album.

4. Indren, “Duskborn” (Naturmacht Productions)

이탈리아 산간 대기권 소리과 같은 블랙 메탈 밴드 Indren의 2025년 제풀이 너무 좋아요. Windir과 Ulver의 팬들에게 이 것을 대박 권고해요.

3. 구룡 (Kuryong), “백두의 소환” (“Summoning of Baektu”) and “노래하자! 전진하자!” (“Advance and Sing!”) (independently released)

In an unprecedented decision, Gorn presents another tie-breaker in 2025. This time, trade Iranian Nationalism for the Juche ideology of the DPRK. 좋다! The true origins of this band are not yet revealed, but based on the fact that 99.9% of North Koreans do not have internet access, I’m gonna assume they probably aren’t uploading their music to YouTube from inside the Hermit Kingdom… Nevertheless, if Kuryong is lying about being a North Korean band, the gimmick is not the least black metal thing in the world. The title track of the debut, “백두의 소환,” is exquisitely reminiscent of Emperor’s classic song “I Am the Black Wizards.”

2. Hate, “Bellum Regiis” (Metal Blade Records)

Hate는 시간이 갈 수록 폴란드의 Blackened Death Metal 밴드 중 비공식적 대표된 밴드 최고 될 것 같아요. Considered by many to be second to Behemoth as far as Polish Blackened Death Metal goes. However, over the years Hate has continuously proven themselves a fucking awesome BDM band, with their own hateful sound. This continues with the 13th album “벨룸 리끼시스.” 한번 들어보시면 좋겠다.

1. Ghost Bath, “Rose Thorn Necklace” (Nuclear Blast Records)

드디어 1순위에  도착했다. 고스트 바스의 5번째 앨범은 여기까지 대박입니다. 데니스 미쿨라 가명 “Nameless”가 악기 다 연주하니까 그에서만 그의 비전이 실현됐다. 신시사이저를 활용한 것이 가장 특별한 것으로 여겨요. 음악이 우울증적이고 어둠이여, 빨리 연주하니까 마음에 들어요. 자살하지 말고 그냥 즐겨라 ^_^
